I figure I've had the car for 3.5 years, so I'm about 2.5 years overdue for changing the cabin filters....great!

First go to your Honda dealership and get totally ripped off by paying $19 for each filter. There's 2 of them. Proceed to wonder why you didn't just buy them online.

Image

Open your glovebox and empty it out. Put your finger in behind these tabs and pop them out from the back.

Image

Lay it aside.

Image

Allow your glovebox to open all the way to the floor.

Image

Get your finger in there and pop the clip holding this plastic piece in.

Image

Grab these tabs and pull out each filter housing.

Image

Slides right out.

Image

Compare old with the new.

Image

Take the old filter out of the housing and put the new one in. Make sure the air flow arrows point the same way on both the filter and the housing. Then reassemble the opposite way!

did this before i left. not only does it smell nice and clean when i turn on a/c or the heat, but it blows literally twice as strong as before.

you should see how gross mine was haha. i put up a post on civicforums showing before and after pictures. it was nice and easy with your diy though.

next time go to auto value though. honda said just over $40 for the set, partsource said just over $30 for their brand, and autovalues only ended up costing me i think like 21$ which are just as good as the honda ones.

dany when you put yours in, did you change both? it looks like you only did 1 in your diy.

disoblige, once you have the first one pulled straight out, grab that little tab you still see, and shift it over then pull it out. i dont see it in the diy but i noticed that when i did it.

one thing i was thinking of trying for a cycle was cutting out two pieces of furnace filter and using those in place of the $40 oem cabin filters. if you wanted better filtration you could cut out four pieces, using two in each cabin filter frame by squishing on ontop of the other.

i read a post a long ass time ago about this guy who said he started doing that and it worked out great for him

wow! since i bought my civic the ac and hot air was soo crappy. in winter in -40 i would have to turn off all the vents except one just to get some hot air to warm my frost bitten hands from scraping off the ice on the windshield that would take hours to melt off lol. i just figured the air conditioning in my car just sucked till i read this forum and decided to replace the cabin air filter. so i got bolth filers for 14.00 at napa. when i removed my old filters there was literally half a inch of dust layered on top ](*,) no wonder the AC sucked anyway i poped the new filter in turned on the ac and holy christ did i get blown away :-"
thank you dex for making this diy :prayer: :prayer: :prayer:
one of the best preformance upgrades ive ever done to my car lol thank you again you dont know how happy i am
the other day it was +30 and my ac actually works now :finga: lol usually i have to roll down all the windows and open the sunroof so i dont get heat stroke although my girlfriend gets mad cause the wind wrecks her hair so she is happy too \:D/

mike, since you need to do this asap, and you generally make your car your own personal test subject, i think YOU are the perfect candidate to test out the furnace filter theory :D . cut four pieces out to size and put two in each filter frame and tell us how good and clean your new air flow is!
